Sports bar, restaurant, and courtyard; one of the more popular Shunyi bars

The Pomegranate is a Shunyi institution. The large courtyard has plenty of room for outdoor seating, indoor private dining, and a sports bar. The menu has a good selection of comfort food, including recently added clay oven pizza, at reasonable prices and in good portions.
Great to see artichoke and cheese dip (45RMB) on the menu, but in my opinion the cream cheese played a bit too dominant role in the mix. Expect a huge portion of tasty fried fish with the very reasonably priced 45RMB fish and chips plate. The Pomegranate's veggie burger (45RMB) is truly first-rate; they really got the recipe right on this one. Both of the pizzas we tried were good, but a bit on the bland side. A little more attention to herbs and spices would make a world of difference.
We participated in their weekly quiz night, which happens every Wednesday at 7:30pm. The multimedia quiz is quite well organized and very enjoyable. Buckets of beer, wine, shots, and shooters are offered as prizes to the top several teams. Inexpensive lubrication is otherwise available in the form of buckets of six Tsingtao bottles (60RMB) or six Coors Light bottles (100RMB). Big mugs of Carlsberg draft are 25RMB for a half liter.
